After stop | Pakistan is carrying out air strikes in Afghanistan again

Photo: dpa/Sami Jan Islamabad.  After a serious bomb attack in Pakistan on Friday, the military is again attacking targets in neighboring Afghanistan from the air. The German Press Agency learned from Pakistani security circles that there were attacks in the provinces of Nangarhar, Kunar and Pakitka. 

Fighting in the Afghan-Pakistani border area is currently still ongoing, it said. The people behind Friday's attack were met in Paktika province. The spokesman for the Taliban ruling Afghanistan, Sabihullah Mujahid, confirmed two of the air strikes on Platform X. Three people were killed in Kunar.

On Friday there was a terrorist attack in the Pakistani city of Kohat, killing at least 22 people. The Islamist coalition Ittehad-ul Mujahideen Pakistan claimed responsibility for the attack. This is led by long-time terrorist Hafiz Gul Bahadur with connections to Al-Qaeda.

The government in Islamabad accuses the Taliban in Afghanistan of harboring terrorists who carry out attacks in Pakistan. Kabul denies this.

The conflict between the neighboring countries broke out openly about a year ago. Since then, Pakistan has closed its border crossings with its neighboring country - with serious consequences for the supply of food and humanitarian goods in Afghanistan. At the end of February this year, Pakistan's defense minister declared an "open war" with Afghanistan - a wave of air strikes followed.

The United Nations documented 499 Afghan civilians killed following Pakistani attacks since October last year.

Escalating terrorism poses domestic political problems for Pakistan. According to the South Asia Terrorism Portal, 662 civilians have been killed in attacks this year alone. This means that more people have been killed in acts of terrorism this year than in the entire previous year.  dpa/nd
