TV satirist is planning a new show: Jan Böhmermann is ending his show

dpa | After more than six years, the satirist Jan Böhmermann is stopping his show “ZDF Magazin Royale” at the end of the year. ZDF announced that after more than 187 programs and numerous awards, including the Grimme Prize, the German Television Prize and the Hanns Joachim Friedrichs Prize, the magazine will be phased out in its current form. It said they are “currently in good discussions with Jan Böhmermann about a possible new show concept.”

ZDF program director Nadine Bilke said they would be happy to continue the successful collaboration with Böhmermann and “open a new chapter of the show together”. There was initially no further information about the content. ZDF will provide information about the outcome of the talks in due course, it said.

According to ZDF, Böhmermann himself said: “I would like to do another show again.” The 45-year-old is known for his provocative wit and clear positions. His programs are not neutral; they often spark debates. Fans appreciate him for this, but his critics value him less.

It is not the first time that Böhmermann's show formats have been further developed on ZDF. Started in 2013 as “Neo Magazin” and later as “Neo Magazin Royale” on ZDFneo for almost five years, “ZDF Magazin Royale” was added to ZDF’s main program in 2020.

In recent years it has already been noticeable that the 45-year-old is broadening his work. The fifth season of “Böhmi brutzelt” (ZDFneo) has been on display since mid-July. He can also be heard with Olli Schulz on the podcast “Fest & Fluschig”. He has also tried his hand at art exhibitions.

At the beginning of 2027, Böhmermann wanted to go on tour with the Ehrenfeld Radio Dance Orchestra, known from his show. According to the media report, the tour is "On! On! Ehrenfeld!" now cancelled.
