Stages in MV promote diversity: “Democracy is not an auditorium”

“Democracy thrives on us all raising our voices”: This was the conclusion of a joint statement from the five state and city theaters in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania at the end of last week. And that is what the Theater and Orchestra Neubrandenburg/Neustrelitz, the Vorpommersche Landesbühne, the Theater Vorpommern based in Stralsund and Greifswald, the Volkstheater Rostock and the Mecklenburgisches Staatstheater Schwerin/Parchim mean quite literally: With a view to the state elections on September 20th, they have been inviting people to sing together “for diversity, for cohesion and for the freedom of art” since Saturday and until next weekend.

On open days, at markets or at our own season opening festivals, choirs and ensembles - on the one hand artists, on the other hand clubs, visitors and residents - should bring together "what makes this country strong: the togetherness of the people who live here." "Discover what connects us"

That is why the signatory houses stand for freedom of art and democracy. "We don't want to dictate what people should think. But we want to say clearly what we stand for: A democracy in which every person has equal dignity. A society in which origin, skin color, gender, religion, sexual identity or political opinion should not be a reason for exclusion and contempt. A country in which minorities are protected and in which no one has to be afraid to express their opinion or be themselves."

Before the Schwerin state parliament election on September 20th - in which a strong result for the AfD is predicted - people sing: The campaign “For it!” has begun! on Saturday at the season opening of the Theater Vorpommern in the Greifswald town hall, where, according to the Norddeutscher Rundfunk, more than 100 Grefswald residents joined in. There should be singing in front of the Volkstheater Rostock late on Tuesday afternoon, and further activities are planned for September 12th and 13th.
