Trade unions take workers' issues to the heart of Welsh government

TUC Cymru general secretary Laura Doel said the union body “is determined to take the issues that matter most to working people straight to the heart of government.”

Its fringe meeting was packed with conference delegates to hear how trade unions had led a campaign to tackle the far right in Wales by combatting misinformation and division in the workplace.

TUC Cymru’s Ffion Dean said the United Cymru campaign was launched to combat far-right misinformation ahead of the Senedd election.

Ms Dean said the campaign encouraged people to vote and help union reps tackle difficult conversations in the workplace.   

Fire Brigade Union representative Joanne Trafford said: “It is a constant challenge in the workplace to counter comments made about gender differences, especially those picked up from online comments about women firefighters only getting the job because of their sex.”
