Belle Vue will face either Sheffield or Leicester in the two-legged final, with the South Yorkshire team taking a commanding 57-33 lead into tomorrow evening’s meeting at Leicester.

HORSE RACING: Apprentice jockey Paddy McGettigan completed a 176/1 double at Down Royal on Monday afternoon. 

The Letterkenny teenager steered home the Ado McGuinness-trained Minaun View before partnering 22/1 outsider Pillar of Hope to a stunning four-and-a-half length win in the last race of the day. 

At Roscommon, amateur jockey David Doyle claimed a staggering 392/1 double on Greattobeable and Getaway Charlie.

MEN’S RUGBY LEAGUE: Penrith Panthers half-back Nathan Cleary will miss this autumn’s World Cup after suffering a serious ankle injury during their Grand Final play-off defeat to Newcastle Knights. 

Cleary was part of the Australian team that picked up the trophy in Manchester four years ago when they beat Samoa 30-10 in the final. 

He played in all three Ashes Tests last year and was the leading points scorer across the series.
