A BUSINESS jet crashed into a south Florida neighbourhood on Sunday, killing all nine people on board.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy confirmed the deaths and said the Learjet 60 crashed in Palm Beach County at 12.50pm local time, erupting into a fireball near homes.

The pilot had radioed: “We’re going to crash into the ground.” Video showed the aircraft plunging from the sky before exploding.

Florida governor Ron DeSantis said it was a “cataclysmic plane crash.” There were no immediate reports of anyone on the ground injured or killed.

The plane had departed Austin, Texas, and was headed to the Bahamas.

Air traffic control recordings captured the pilot reporting ice and turbulence, requesting to climb, then declaring an emergency as the aircraft entered a steep dive.

“We’re descending 10,000 feet per minute,” the pilot radioed.

The jet was a private aircraft, according to Austin-Bergstrom international airport.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating, and about 600 people were evacuated from a nearby mobile home community.
