It took until the 14th minute for the first chance of the game as although there was a decent intensity from the start, it was also cagey from both sides.

The ball fell to Oscar Bobb who curled it with his favourite left foot, Lukas Hornicek dived in the air to his right making a good save.

From the resulting corner, Gonzalo Garcia’s looping header went just over the bar.

Five minutes later, Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno was called into action. Jacob Murphy’s low cross was met by Harvey Barnes first time, looked to be heading in until Leno saved with his left foot.

Barnes had another chance and this time a big one as he was through on goal and attempted to dink Leno, but the Fulham stopper saved again.

Former Fulham player Dan Burn scored from the resulting corner, however Yoane Wissa pulled Timothy Castagne at the back post, so the goal was disallowed.

Not long after Josh King hit a ferocious first-time volley outside the area from Alex Iwobi’s cross, Hornicek made another good save.

Few minutes into the second half, it looked like Barnes had given Newcastle the lead as Wissa laid the ball for Barnes in the area but his first time effort went just wide.

Halfway through the second half, King held his groin and was subbed off which puts his first England call-up in doubt.

The first goal of the game was scored in the 80th minute.

Fulham substitute Cesar Palacios misplaced his pass in the middle of the pitch, Murphy picked up the ball, drove forward and then cut in on his left before hitting a great strike from 25 yards out beating the diving Leno.Three minutes later, another Fulham substitute was involved in a goal but this time in the home side’s favour.

After some quick passing that made its way to Palacios in the box, his deflected pass fell to Rodrigo Muniz and the Brazilian substitute smartly flicked the ball into the net.

It was all to play for in the dying moments of the game, just before the 90th-minute mark Lewis Hall looked to be scoring as he found his way into the area and his right footed effort was heading in until Leno made a big save and held on.

In added time Ryan Sessegnon hit a powerful half volley just outside the area, but Hornicek parried the ball away as the game ended in a draw.
