Villa, who finished ninth last term, sit second bottom of the table following two draws and two defeats from their opening four matches and were beaten 4-0 by Tottenham in the WSL on Sunday.

Arroyo, who previously managed Real Sociedad Femenino, joined Villa in January 2025 and helped the club avoid relegation.

Brian Sorensen, the former Everton boss who is now Villa’s technical advisor, will take charge of the team on an interim basis and will be in the hot seat for their League Cup clash with Newcastle this evening.
