Vance blames Iran war for Republican midterm defeat

US Vice President JD Vance says the war in Iran drove voters who backed him and Donald Trump in 2024 towards the Democrats in this year’s midterm elections.

“The reason we lost is the war. The president himself said so last night”, he wrote on X. “If you’d like to argue it was worth it, that losing the Senate for the next 6 years was worth it, then do so.”

Vance pointed to those switching parties as the central reason for the Republican defeat.

“The main problem is that many people who voted for Trump/Vance in 2024 voted for Democrats in 2026”, he said.
