Riyadh offers to lift Yemen blockade in two-week truce with Houthis, Al-Akhbar reports

Saudi Arabia has offered a two-week ceasefire to Yemen's Houthis, to be followed by direct talks, Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar reported, adding that Riyadh was ready to discuss humanitarian demands and ultimately secure a comprehensive deal.

The newspaper also reported that the Houthis were not enthusiastic about the proposal and wanted a comprehensive settlement that would lift the air, land and sea blockade and include withdrawal of Saudi military, security and political forces from Yemen.

Riyadh has also shown readiness to remove the blockade on Yemen and allow the entry of humanitarian aid, Al-Akhbar said.

The offer was reportedly conveyed through an Omani mediator following contacts involving Saudi Arabia, the United States, Egypt, Pakistan and Oman.
