Yemen conflict displaces 112,000 people in two weeks, UN says
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) on Friday said that at least 112,000 people have been displaced inside Yemen over the past two weeks, as renewed fighting between Houthi forces and forces aligned with the internationally recognised government has intensified along the country's western coast.
According to the United Nations migration agency, nearly 3,000 residents from the Gulf of Aden have also crossed to neighbouring Djibouti by sea.
Djiboutian authorities are preparing to receive as many as 10,000 refugees as the influx puts additional pressure on already stretched health, education and humanitarian services, UN agencies said.
The latest displacement figures represent a sharp rise from earlier this month, when the IOM had reported more than 100,000 people displaced inside Yemen since renewed fighting.
