Israeli police guard 1,500 Jewish settlers storming Al-Aqsa mosque as Palestinians face restrictions

Israeli police imposed tight restrictions on Palestinians while helping around 1,500 Jewish settlers storm into Jerusalem’s occupied Al-Aqsa Mosque courtyard on Sunday, according to the Jerusalem Governorate.

The settlers entered in waves through the Mughrabi Gate on the second day of the Jewish “Feast of Tabernacles”. Israeli authorities shut the gate after the incursions.

Inside the compound, settlers held prayers and Talmudic rituals, particularly near the Cotton Merchants’ Gate, and brought in “plant offerings”, the governorate said.

Others prayed outside Bab Hutta, another entrance to Al-Aqsa, as Israeli forces maintained restrictions around the mosque and across occupied Jerusalem’s Old City.

The governorate recorded about 40,661 Jewish settler incursions into the mosaue between January and the end of August.
