BDS petitions UN General Assembly for suspension of Israel's UN membership

The Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement has launched a petition calling for action to suspend Israel’s United Nations membership.

Coinciding with the 81st session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA), the BDS addressed the petition to Khalil al-Rahman, president of the UNGA’s 81st session, calling for Israel’s UN membership to be dealt with in a manner similar to the measures against South Africa during the apartheid era, according to Wafa.

The petition bases its demands on allegations that Israel has committed serious violations of international law and failed to comply with resolutions and positions issued by UN bodies and the International Court of Justice, the report said.

The campaign also accuses Israel of targeting UN facilities and personnel, obstructing the work of UN officials, committees, and experts, and failing to abide by international resolutions concerning the Palestinian cause.
