Claude Lanzmann's 1985 film "Shoah" about the murder of European Jews lasts nine hours. The French journalist worked on it for 12 years and recorded over 220 hours of footage. Film scientist Christoph Hesse is working on what didn't make it into the final film, the “outtakes,” as part of a research project. He spoke to “Jungle World” about the genesis of the film, the status of the outtakes and what role “Shoah” plays in relation to current Holocaust relativization.
