Drenched and still there: loud solo demo for AZ Aachen

Not a step back! Not a day without it!

Despite pouring rain, over 400 people gathered on Sunday, September 13th to demonstrate for the preservation of the Autonomous Center and other left-wing open spaces. Accompanied by a massive police presence, the demonstration started on time and marched loudly and powerfully through Aachen. The demonstration was stopped several times by the police, but we continued on undeterred by these attempts at intimidation.

With a broad spectrum of people, we have shown that left-wing spaces are an important anchor for solidarity and cohesion, especially in times of authoritarian escalation. In defiance of the shift to the right and the rise of fascist parties, we will not allow ourselves to be pushed off the streets or out of our spaces. In recent decades, AZ has been repeatedly threatened by Nazi attacks, repression and capitalist interests. We have been defying this for over 30 years.

Today the threat is concrete: the Aachen police broke down our door last Monday and searched our premises under scandalous circumstances. These events will take their own processing, but today we show that we are still here.

We continue to refuse to be intimidated and stand side by side. Thank you for the great support and solidarity that has reached us in the last few days.
