The election victory of the AfD and the helplessness of the bourgeois left

In Saxony-Anhalt, the right-wing extremist AfD won the elections and narrowly missed an absolute majority. There is sheer horror and disbelief in the political competition, from the CDU, SPD, Greens, Left Party to large parts of the so-called “Radical Left” - especially with regard to the expected AfD government in the 3rd ballot at the latest. In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Berlin, where elections will also take place in September, the AfD is somewhat weaker, but here too there is a risk of a strong performance for the civil right.

Chancellor Merz rubs his eyes and cannot understand what has happened here. His conclusion: carry on as before, but we just have to sell the social attacks on the wage-earning class and the simultaneous preparation for a new world war better. The SPD is ready for any kind of “swine” anyway, the Greens still trump the bourgeois right-wing parties in some cases and the Left Party could start Sunday prayers in church according to the motto “make pious speeches without anything coming out of it and in the end you agree to everything”. The so-called “Radical Left” has lost its last bit of radicalism and is firmly in the grip of the anti-fascist Popular Front, which wants to prevent an AfD at all costs, but has completely dropped its criticism of social cuts, social attacks and wars by the ruling class in favor of the ability to form alliances with the state parties, and in some cases even supports their wars.

In this situation of maximum confusion and unrealisticness among the state-supporting forces narrowed down by bourgeois ideology - including their supposedly left-wing radical part - the Communist Left once again has the task of bringing light and order to the public debate. It is important to reveal the causes of the chaos of bourgeois society on the basis of a sober, merciless, materialist and Marxist analysis - beyond bourgeois delusions and wishful ideas and antagonistic to the existing capitalist conditions.

This includes deriving the causes of crisis and war and the resulting attacks on the wage-dependent class from the dynamics of capitalist conditions. The helplessness of all bourgeois forces, on the other hand, results from a consistent and ideologically based lack of understanding of capitalist reality. And it is precisely this helplessness that paves the way for right-wing populist forces around the world that, on the surface, have better explanations and concepts than the established parties, but once in government they make the same crash landing as, for example, Trump in the USA.

We are seeing an erosion of the party system that has so far guaranteed bourgeois rule in the Federal Republic of Germany. Whether the declining self-proclaimed “people's parties” SPD and CDU will be replaced by a radicalized new AFD “people's party” is unlikely given the protest nature of their voters and, above all, against the background of social upheaval. A fragmentation of the party system that restricts the smooth flow of political bourgeois rule, as is already more advanced in other European countries, will also become the new reality in the Federal Republic of Germany. Instead of wanting to preserve the anachronistic political conditions of the old FRG, as the left of capital is hopelessly trying to do, it is our task to use the political friction losses of the bourgeois dictatorship for the anti-capitalist and anti-democratic struggle of the proletariat.
