You know that's true. If not, why does everyone groan when you mention the word? Why are there always so few people present at your anarcho-communist theory group meetings? Why hasn't the oppressed proletariat come to their senses and joined you in your struggle for liberation?

After years of educational work, you may have come to blame them for their situation, as if they themselves wanted to be crushed under the foot of capitalist imperialism. Why else wouldn’t they be interested in your political work? Why haven't they joined you yet and started, like you, writing political analyses, shouting slogans at boring Latsch demos and regularly visiting the anarchist bookstore? Why haven't they sat down and learned all the terminology to adequately understand the complexities of Marxist economic theory?

The truth is that your politics are boring to them because they have no meaning. They know that your outdated forms and modes of protest - your marches, rallies and meetings - are powerless to bring about any real change in the here and now because they have become such a predictable part of the status quo. They know that your post-Marxist jargon is so out there because it is a language of academic dispute, not a weapon to destroy the ruling system. They know that your internal turf wars, your factions, and endless arguments over theoretical fantasies will never produce any real change in the lives they lead every day. They know that whoever sits in the upper echelons, whoever lays down the laws, whatever “-isms” the intellectuals march under, the content of their lives will always remain the same. They - and we - know that this boredom is proof that these policies are not the key to truly transforming lives. And that's also because our lives are already boring enough!

And you know that too! For how many of you is politics a responsibility? Something you stand up for because you feel like you should do it, even if deep down there are a million other things you would rather be doing a thousand times more. Your volunteer work, is it your favorite pastime or do you just do it out of a sense of duty? Why do you think it is so damn difficult to get others to do the same volunteer work? Could it be that it is more a feeling of guilt that drives you to fulfill your “duty” to be politically active? Maybe you make this work “palatable” to yourself by trying – consciously or unconsciously – to get into trouble with the authorities or get arrested. Not because it benefits your goal, but because it makes the whole thing more “exciting,” makes you feel something of what in days gone by was the romance of moving times. Have you ever felt like you were participating in a ritual, a long-established tradition of old forms of protest that only serves to reinforce the position of the mainstream? Have you never secretly wished you could escape the stagnation and boredom of your political “responsibility”?

It's no wonder no one has joined you in your political endeavors. Maybe you say to yourself that it's a hard, thankless job, but someone has to do it. But we think: NO.

You are doing us all a disservice with your boring and uninteresting politics. It is not the politics of our oh-so “democratic” system, in which those who reproduce this very system are elected. Nor the politics of the “I supported left-wing radical politics because I love arguing about trivial things and writing with rhetorical skill about an unattainable utopia” anarchists. And also not the politics of a leader or an ideology that formulates that people have to make sacrifices for the great “cause”. If you detach politics from the now, from people's everyday experiences, then it becomes completely irrelevant. In reality, it then degenerates into the domain of wealthy, comfortable and carefree intellectuals who can afford to indulge in such monotonous and theoretical disputes. If you yourself engage in political work solely out of a sense of duty, and make political action a boring chore rather than a game that is exciting for its own sake, then you are alienating all the people whose lives are already too boring for your boredom. If you make politics a lifeless thing, a joyless thing, a boring chore, then it will only be another ballast for people instead of something that will lighten their burden. And that's why you're destroying the idea of ​​politics for the people who should care most about it. That's why everyone benefits from looking at their own life and asking themselves what they actually want from their life and how they can get it.But you make politics, in their eyes, a horrible, self-absorbed and pointless middle-class game, a game that has no relevance at all to the real lives they lead every day.

But what should actually be political? That we enjoy how we get our food and our apartment. That we find our daily relationships with friends, neighbors and co-workers satisfying. That we have the opportunity to live every day the way we want. And “politics” should above all not be about discussing it, but about acting directly to improve the here and now, in a way of acting that is already satisfying, exciting and pleasurable in itself. Because political action that is boring and burdened by a sense of duty can only produce boredom, resignation and oppression. No more time should be spent discussing irrelevant topics when we have to go back to our crappy job the next day anyway. There should also be no more predictable, ritualized forms of protest that the authorities already know how to deal with all too well. None of this will really get us anywhere. Never again should we allow ourselves to be burned out and sacrificed for the “cause”. Ourselves, the satisfaction of our lives and that of everyone around us must become the “thing”!

Once we make politics relevant and exciting, the rest will take care of itself. But nothing can follow from boring, mainly theoretical and/or ritualized politics. This does not mean that we should not support the people, animals and the environment that do not necessarily surround us in our everyday lives. But the basis of our politics must be clear: it must relate to the now, it must make it clear to everyone why all the effort is worth it and it must be pleasurable for its own sake. How can we create positive change for other people when we ourselves feel uncomfortable with our own lives?

To be clear: spending an afternoon collecting food that stores have thrown away but that is still good and distributing it to hungry people or those who don't want to pay for their right to eat is a good political action. But only if you enjoy it yourself, if you do it with friends, if you meet new, interesting people, maybe even fall in love or if you just have fun together. On the other hand, if you spend an afternoon writing a letter to an obscure left-wing newspaper to criticize the supposedly incorrect use of the term “anarcho-syndicalism” in a column, that will get you and us a shit ton. And you know that too!

Maybe it's time to create a new concept of "politics" because you've made such a dirty word out of the old one. So that no one is deterred when we talk about acting together to improve our everyday lives. And that is why we are making our demands here and now, which are non-negotiable and must be implemented immediately. Because we won't live forever, will we?

Makes politics relevant to our everyday lives again. The further the goal of our political efforts becomes, the less important politics is to us, the more oppressive and annoying it appears to us.

Every political action must itself be pleasurable and exciting. People cannot escape boredom with more boredom.

In order to be able to take the first two steps, completely new political approaches and methods must be created. The usual ones are outdated and outdated. Maybe they were NEVER really good and that's exactly why the world is the way it is right now.

Have fun with yourself! There is never an excuse to be bored... or boring!
