New season “Ted Lasso”: No! But! And yes!

When it was announced that the comedy series “Ted Lasso” would be renewed after a three-year break, fans wondered what would happen next. Because it was actually supposed to end after three seasons, the story had been told. After Ted Lasso managed (without any previous experience) to turn a bunch of slobs into a successful football team, he returned to the USA from Great Britain.

In the fourth season we meet Ted Lasso (Jason Sudeikis) at his new job, which doesn't involve any sports. But he also carries out his role as assistant manager at Fowch’s Fine Foods with unshakable optimism and radical do-gooder spirit.

Until one day a black SUV rolls up to his suburban home. It's his former bosses at AFC Richmond who are trying to persuade him to come back. After a short no-yes-no-yes argument, Ted Lasso ends up where he belongs: on the football field in London. Not to train his old stars, but the women's team.

So the same thing all over again – just with women. Again, it's about Ted Lasso having to form a real team. Once again, idiosyncratic characters stand in his way, and once again he uses unusual methods to help the team win. For example, an alcohol-fuelled pub quiz that lands the women and trainers in jail for a few hours.

But expectability is not the series' weakness, but rather its strength. Anyone who tunes in to Ted Lasso doesn't want cliffhangers or unpleasant surprises, but rather feel-good content. Whether you are interested in football is irrelevant to this series. It's for everyone who needs a little hope in these times.
