After the CSD attack in Berlin: Rainbow bench in the Tiergarten damaged again

taz/dpa | The rainbow bench commemorating the Islamist terrorist attack on Christopher Street Day (CSD) in Berlin's Tiergarten has once again been partially destroyed. According to police, a colorful wooden slat was dismantled and two other slats were damaged. This was discovered on Thursday evening. Initially nothing was known about the perpetrators.

The rainbow-colored bench was set up near the site of the attack on August 6th. Also a memorial tree. Both bench and tree were arranged by the Mitte district office. They are intended to remind people that diversity, respect and a self-determined life are a given in Mitte and the entire city of Berlin.

It is already the third anti-queer vandalism against the memorial sites of the CSD attack. The bank was destroyed for the first time at the beginning of September. Shortly later the tree was also found uprooted. In both cases, the Mitte district office reacted quickly. The tree was put back in place and the bench was put back up on September 14th.

In the terrorist attack on July 25, the 21-year-old Islamist attacker drove a car into a group of people and crashed into a tree. The man then attacked other people with a machete before fleeing. One woman was killed and 31 people were injured, some seriously. A day later, police shot the assassin.
