State elections: What should the Greens, SPD and Left do if they win?

All of Germany is trembling before the state elections in Berlin and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Only the Greens, SPD and Left are well prepared because they have a surefire plan B ready if things go wrong and the party with A wins again. "No problem. Then we'll just call for a ban again," can be heard from the statements of well-known strategists. Such a request for a ban is always well received, ideally immediately after major defeats.

According to the calculations, the right-wing danger will be averted in a few years thanks to an application for a ban from the western federal states and a ruling from Karlsruhe. All right-wing voters then return as planned, converted and remorseful - especially the East Germans. Problem solved. Possibly increasing problems in the meantime with protest elections or popular uprisings? Just don't think about it.

So far, so simple. However, the situation will be difficult for the Greens, SPD and Left if, contrary to expectations, they are able to govern together after the elections in Berlin and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Manuela Schwesig, for example, is a red flag for many Greens because she was in charge of Russia policy a little longer than the others. Okay, the line is now broken and Schwesig admitted mistakes. But you never know. During the election campaign she again said “peace” suspiciously often. Would the BSW even be closer to her?

The taz is an independent, left-wing and opinionated daily newspaper. We have been arguing in our comments, essays and debate texts since the taz was founded in 1979. We often cannot and do not want to agree on an opinion. That's why you'll find some completely opposing positions here - all part of the very broad left-wing spectrum of opinions.

Nevertheless, there is a chance that the SPD and the Greens will bring themselves to govern together under Schwesig. The problems for the Greens, SPD and Left would become even more complicated and even insoluble with a red-red-green majority in Berlin. Noise is programmed there, especially by the SPD and its candidates. “Then in the end we would really have to implement a clear majority vote in the referendum for the expropriation of particularly blatant real estate sharks,” has already been groaned, because it would be risky to risk so much democracy.

It's a good thing for the desperate Social Democrats that many left-wingers generally think that governing is wrong. Some Realo-Greens, on the other hand, would prefer to govern with the CDU and are urgently looking for an excuse. Quite a few in the Greens, SPD and Left are therefore hoping that the famous, tried-and-tested rapper Dahabflex will appear on election evening and shout “Free the Left”. The only question is who will invite him.
