Consequences after the election party in Neukölln: Koçak was “naive” and “overwhelmed”.

This happened faster than for many other politicians: Berlin's left-wing MP Ferat Koçak admits a mistake and announces that he will resign his seat on the Bundestag's Interior Committee.

A member of the family, namely Issa Remmo, showed up at the left-wing election party in Neukölln and was thrown out, and his son then published chats with Koçak from the past. The MP's post continued: "I made a mistake." The contact does not correspond to his self-image. He was “naive” and “overwhelmed”.

Koçak has now told Die Zeit how he claims to have come into contact with the Remmos. Accordingly, at the beginning there was a call for some activists who needed new cell phones after the police took away their own. Issa Remmo is then said to have reported that the men had arranged to meet and met in her father's office.

Only there did the member of the Bundestag recognize Issa Remmo and point out his work on the Interior Committee. He said that “he was working there on the subject of clan crime” and that that was why he actually had to leave. After 15 minutes at the latest, Koçak was out of the office again. It is difficult to verify whether all of this is true.

The fact that Koçak did not stay away from the family even after that, but rather asked Firas Remmo a little later to share one of his Bundestag speeches against the “fighting concept of clan crime,” is something he “perhaps” describes in retrospect as a “mistake,” according to the report. The deputy was then invited to Remmo's brother's wedding, but did not go. It has not been conclusively proven whether the chats took place as time reconstructs them.

One thing is clear, however: On election night, Koçak also took a selfie with a man who described the mastermind of October 7 as a “heroic martyr,” as a video from the NGO Democ shows. The man is Ibrahim Ibrahim. He represents the United Palestinian National Committee (VPNK) in Germany, which is supposed to work with both Hamas and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP). Members of the PFLP also took part in the October 7 event, and the organization refers to Ibrahim as a “comrade” on its website.

Although Koçak appeared with Ibrahim at a demonstration in Neukölln in the past and claimed to the world in 2025 that he did not know Ibrahim Ibrahim, he now told Die Zeit again that he did not recognize the man at the election party. “Is Koçak just naive, or is he not telling the truth?” asks the report. What the party or faction of the Left thinks about the statement could no longer be found out on Wednesday evening. Koçak himself has not responded to taz inquiries recently.

In order not to endanger the “important parliamentary work” of his parliamentary group in the Bundestag, he is suspending his committee work, the Neukölln resident announced on X. With this move, Koçak certainly does not satisfy all left-wing voters, some of whom had called for his complete withdrawal. The Greens had demanded his exclusion from the left-wing faction. At the same time, the left-wing MP is drawing clearer conclusions than other MPs do after scandals - be it Philipp Amthor, who employed a right-wing radical, or Olaf Scholz, who was involved in a billion-dollar scandal with Cum-ex.
