A reminder of the Walkman: There used to be more cassettes

C hristian Specht, born in 1969, is politically active and advocates for more opportunities for people with disabilities to participate in the media. Since 2017 he has been the first person with a disability on the board of Lebenshilfe Berlin. If he wants, he will draw us the “woodpecker of the week”.

Walkmans used to be pretty cool. You could put the cassettes in and then just put on headphones and start walking. You could practically clip the Walkman onto your pants. The picture is me listening to a cassette.

Probably hits, I like them. Or the Toten Hosen. There used to be more music stores. There was a particularly good one near Kottbusser Damm. I liked going there and picking out something. A lot of hits, for example Roy Black. I also liked Nena, with 99 balloons.

I not only had a Walkman, but also a cassette recorder. Sometimes I take it to Viktoria-Luise-Platz, which is in Berlin-Schöneberg. I listened to folk music at full volume. People looked at me funny. But I had a lot of fun with it.

Unfortunately, something is broken on the cassette player. I also knew many of the musicians from Dieter Thomas Heck's show. Everyone performed there: Udo Lindenberg, the Beatles, Abba. Great show. Protocol: Clara Dünkler
