The detail about the Bundesliga matchday: resignation rejected – in Istanbul

Nobody believed that coach Eugen Polanski would continue to work at Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday after the 5-0 defeat in Freiburg. On Sunday, faith became certainty. Polanski's resignation was announced. After just three match days, the coaching chairs in the Bundesliga can shake a lot. Last season, even at the end of the second matchday, Bayer Leverkusen could no longer imagine a future with the newly hired coach Erik ten Hag.

The Turkish Süper Lig has an even worse reputation when it comes to coach wear and tear. However, an interesting counter-trend can currently be observed. On Thursday, Fenerbahce coach Ismail Kartal bowed to the massive pressure in the club's environment after the Champions League opener against AS Roma (1-1) and announced his resignation: "I made this decision to clear the way for my club."

The fans in particular are angry about the start of the season in the league (two defeats after four games). A bottle thrown that hit Kartal's head is said to have significantly accelerated his decision-making.

But on Saturday the club showed pictures of Ismail Kartal at work and preparing for Monday's game at Gaziantep FK. "I said, you will move on, over. We are a family," President Aziz Yildirim was quoted as saying.

A similar case occurred with league rivals Trabzonspor in August. Coach Fatih Tekke resigned and had to stay. “Due to the emotional strain” he did not want to continue to look after his team after missing qualification for the Europa League, even though he had only just started the league with a draw and a win.

But things are no longer going as quickly as Tekke imagined in the Turkish league. The Trabzonspor board politely rejected his coach's request. It was only four days later, after another defeat, that the club and Tekke were able to agree to end the employment relationship.
