Attack on protest against AfD: Police investigate after shooting at Antifademo in Halle

afp/taz | After a shot from a compressed air weapon at participants in a demonstration in Halle an der Saale in Saxony-Anhalt, the police state security began an investigation. A 25-year-old demonstrator was slightly injured in the face by a bullet on Monday and was treated on site by rescue workers, the local police announced on Tuesday. A previously unknown person fired at least one shot from a compressed air weapon from an adjacent house.

As in other cities, left-wing groups also called for the demonstration against the AfD election success in Saxony-Anhalt. “With an AFD government, the attacks on us and especially on migrants and LGBTI people will increase,” it said in a call on Instagram.

Halle is home to two of the only three constituencies in which it was not the AfD but the direct candidates from the Left who won the mandate.

According to local media reports, around 1,000 people took part in the demonstration. One or more shots are said to have been fired at the final rally on August-Bebel-Platz.
