On the occasion of Children’s Rights Day 2026 and the Golden Jubilee (50th Anniversary) of the Bangladesh Shishu Academy, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman sought the cooperation of children in environmental conservation.
Speaking to the children at an event held on the Shishu Academy premises, the Prime Minister said, ‘Dear friends, I need your help with one matter. A lot of trash is scattered on our streets and roads because people are unconscious. If someone throws garbage on the street, you can put them to shame by saying, ‘If you destroy the environment, I will be harmed.’ In this way, you can make adults aware.
At this event, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman became completely one with the children. He was accompanied by his spouse and Vice President of the Ziaur Rahman Foundation, Dr. Zubaida Rahman. The Prime Minister reminisced about visiting the Shishu Academy in 1976 with his father, mother, and brother. He mentioned that his own writings and those of Arafat Rahman Koko were published in the academy’s magazine, ‘Shishu’. In his speech, the Prime Minister outlined the government’s steps and plans for children’s development. Noting that children must participate not only in studies but also in creative work, he said that they should be encouraged to practice subjects they love, such as poetry, song, Quran recitation and painting.
Earlier this morning (Tuesday, October 6), when the Prime Minister arrived at the Bangladesh Shishu Academy, 150 children welcomed him. The event then commenced with the national anthem, and the Prime Minister took his seat with the guests.
The event was attended by the Prime Minister’s spouse and Vice Chairman of the Ziaur Rahman Foundation, Dr. Zubaida Rahman. The program was presided over by the Minister for Women and Children Affairs, Professor Dr. A.Z.M. Zahid Hossain.
Today’s program featured a cultural program performed by children, distribution of commemorative gifts to children, and the unveiling of the souvenir ‘Shoishob’.
Child representatives from all districts of the country joined the event via video conference from Deputy Commissioner (DC) offices. The Prime Minister is scheduled to converse with the children.
The theme for this year’s World Children’s Day is ‘Let the Future of Children Be Protected’.
