Verdict in the trial against Gino: A Paris court has recognized Germany's European arrest warrant. The anti-fascist is now to be extradited by France.

On Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m., the Court of Cassation in Paris confirmed the verdict in the appeal process involving the anti-fascist Gino. Gino is charged in the Budapest complex. He is said to have been involved in attacks on a fascist march in the Hungarian capital in 2023.

Gino was arrested on the basis of European arrest warrants, first in Finland and later in France. A French appeals court rejected extradition to Hungary in April 2025 due to constitutional concerns, possible torture and doubts about the conditions of the arrest warrant. However, in December 2025, Germany itself issued a European arrest warrant against Gino, as two of those affected are said to be German citizens.

This meant that the case had to be re-examined in France, which led to multiple adjournments. At the end of August, an appeals court had already ruled positively on Gino's extradition to Germany. Due to his Albanian citizenship and the previous actions of the German authorities as in Maja's case, he is also at risk of extradition to Hungary.

In an interview withndGino had explained, referring to his trip to Budapest in 2023: “Demonstrating against fascism is something that has to be done – always, in every country, wherever you are.”

Lawyer criticizes verdict

Gino's lawyer Youri KrasouliaexplainedRegarding the judgment: “Today we are faced with successive European arrest warrants against activists, based on investigations carried out by political powers that are considered not independent, that can be exploited and that are considered justified in the spirit of the French justice system.”

"I think the fact that so many of us are here today shows that we have been able to achieve success with the mobilizations that have taken place. Ultimately, the situation is changing. This shows that the justice system is a place where political pressure and media pressure can have an impact - just like the mobilization of activists," he emphasizes. Activists also gathered at the union hall at lunchtime to protest against the verdict.

Exactly what happens next is unclear. Krasoulia explains: "I can't answer that. As things stand, Gino is at large at the moment and I can't say what will happen from now on after this decision."
