YOURI TIELEMANS is glad Manchester United have stuck with head coach Michael Carrick as they need stability rather than a “sudden change.”
Many expected last weekend’s embarrassing 3-0 Old Trafford submission to Bournemouth to mark the end of the former Red Devils midfielder’s reign just five months after being handed a two-year deal.
But eventually United decided to give Carrick, and his players, the opportunity to turn things around as he attempts to end an eight-match winless run away to Chelsea at lunchtime on Saturday.
Summer signing Tielemans told TNT Sports: “I came here partly because of him because he wanted me here, he wants me to help the team out.
“I’m very happy for him to stay and the whole group, you know, we don’t want a sudden change. We don’t want a big change that is going to disrupt things more than they are.
“We just need stability. We need to keep working hard and then it’s going to turn at some point.”
United’s seven-point return from their first eight games represents their worst start to a campaign since 1986.
Not since 2015 have the club gone eight matches in all competitions without a win, with Saturday’s trip to Chelsea followed by home encounters against Roma and Aston Villa.
Carrick desperately needs an upturn in results before the November international break and Tielemans says he retains the players’ backing.
“What he has said is for us to keep working,” the Belgium international told Viaplay.
“To trust that things are going to come well, to keep working hard, to keep doing the little details right, to be professional, to do your work and then at some point it is going to turn positively.
“He has a lot of trust in our abilities and we trust him as well to guide us through that, so we just need to keep doing good things and then hopefully good things will come.”
