In the 14th minute, Cole Palmer had the first chance of the game with a curling effort which looked to be heading into the top corner, but Spurs keeper Antonin Kinsky pulled off a very good save.

Tottenham then had their first chance after Mohammed Kudus tried to bend one himself, but from a tighter angle. Young Belgian goalkeeper Mike Penders didn’t look to be getting to the ball as it went just wide of the goal.

Omar Marmoush had the best chance of the game after great work from the bombarding Andy Robertson down the left-hand side.

Robertson crossed for Marmoush in the 29th minute, the Egyptian attacker shot first time, but Penders made a sharp save.

Not long after, Kinsky made another fine save from Jordan Henderson. Kinsky made amends after a poor clearance and good quick football by the home side.

A few minutes into the second half, Spurs playmaker James Maddison went down injured.

Both Tottenham and Maddison will be hoping it’s not too serious, as it seems the club are managing his minutes.

Pedro Neto hit a half volley in the box, but Kinsky saved as it was straight at the Spurs stopper.

Estevao had a chance immediately after coming on but his strike hit the side netting.

Spurs eventually took the lead in the 77th minute as Mateus Fernandes took an in-swinging corner, with Penders punching the ball into his own goal after pressure from centre-back Van Hecke, to give the Lilywhites the lead.

Three minutes later, Palmer was sent off after stepping on Conor Gallagher late, receiving a second yellow card and the home side were down to 10 men.

Mathys Tel doubled Tottenham’s lead in the 87th minute, sending the travelling fans into a frenzy.

The Frenchman provided a great solo run from his own half before striking from 25 yards into the bottom corner to beat the diving Penders.

Ole’s were chanted at the away end in added time before jubilant scenes at the final whistle, a very strong performance by De Zerbi’s team.

Spurs manager Roberto De Zerbi was asked on the team’s change in mentality and he said “Nothing, I’m lucky because we have great players and great people. When you work with smart people, they already know what we need to do.”

Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso if he has concerns about Cole Palmer following his red card “Concerns today but not overall. It’s one to learn for the future.”
