MEN’S CRICKET: Ethan Bamber took match figures of 9-94 as Warwickshire eased to an innings and 79 runs win over Leicester to seal the County Championship division one title. Last seasons champions Nottingham finished fourth after slipping to a one wicket defeat against Yorkshire at Trent Bridge. Already relegated Hampshire were confirmed in bottom place after their ninth loss of the year, a 197 run defeat at home to Sussex.

SPEEDWAY: Norwich-born Robert Lambert won Saturday night’s grand prix in Torun, Poland to claim the world championship title. Six-time gold medallist Bartosz Zmarzlik finished just two points behind with Belle Vue’s Brady Kurtz three points further back in third. Tai Woffinden was the last Briton to win the title in 2018 when Zmarzlik, who has now finished in the top two for the last nine seasons, was runner-up.

WOMEN’S CYCLING: Dutch racer Demi Vollering won her first World Road Race title after holding off Kasia Niewiadoma-Phinney in Montreal on Saturday. Italy’s Elisa Longo-Borghini was four seconds back in third, with Pfeiffer Georgi the highest-placed Briton in 11th. Vollering has also won this year’s Tour de France and Giro D’Italia as well as the Liege-Bastogne-Liege, Tour of Flanders, Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and La Fleche Wallonne one-day races.  

MEN’S RUGBY LEAGUE: There will be a new name on the Super League Grand Final trophy after Warrington take on Wakefield in next Saturday’s Old Trafford showdown. Warrington edged to a 14-12 victory at Leeds in their semi-final before Wakefield came from 6-0 down to crush regular season champions Wigan 33-6. Wakefield will be making their debut Grand Final appearance while Warrington have previously finished as runners-up four times.
