MEN’S RUGBY LEAGUE: Despite winning the regular season Super League title, Zach Eckersley and Brad O’Neill are Wigan’s only representatives in this year’s Dream Team. 

Six players from runners-up Leeds are included with Jake O’Connor and James McConnell retaining their places from last season. 

Leigh centre Umyla Hanley was the only other repeat selection from the 2025 team. No St Helens players were selected for the first time since 2016.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: The World Cup’s most valuable player Breanna Stewart top-scored with 22 points as the United States cruised to a 97-79 victory over France in the final at the Berlin Arena. 

The US have now picked up gold at seven of the last nine tournaments since the Soviet Union was dissolved. 

Iyana Martin netted 22 points as Spain thumped Germany 81-58 in the third and fourth place play-off to take the bronze medals.
