The attacks came the morning after President Volodymyr Zelensky warned on social media that Russia was preparing a massive strike.
A missile struck a high-rise apartment building in Pryluky, in the northern Chernihiv region, said Viacheslav Chaus, head of the regional military administration.
At least four people were killed there and 20 injured, including three children, according to preliminary information from the State Emergency Service.
Kiev’s military administration said the capital was hit by ballistic missiles early today killing two people.
Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kiev Regional Military Administration, said the broader Kiev region was also subject to a fierce attack.
Russia’s Defence Ministry said the military carried out a massive strike overnight targeting industrial facilities involved in production and storage of Flamingo missiles and drones across Ukraine.
The ministry said the attack targeted facilities in Kiev and the surrounding region, Chernihiv, Kirovohrad, Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava and Kharkiv regions.
The Russian ministry added that port and ship repair facilities in the Odessa region and ships carrying cargo for the Ukrainian military were also hit.
