Rashid ruled out of England’s ODI series against Sri Lanka

The ultra-reliable 38-year-old sustained an injury to his bowling hand when fielding at Old Trafford on Saturday as England clinched a 3-0 T20 series clean sweep of their Asian rivals.

England’s white-ball captain Harry Brook confirmed the double World Cup winner would miss the ODI series curtain-raiser at the Riverside Ground today.

And after undergoing a scan on Monday, the England and Wales Cricket Board confirmed Rashid will be absent for tomorrow’s match at Headingley and Sunday’s game at the Oval owing to a “right hand injury.”

Rashid is second on the list of England’s all-time ODI wicket-takers with 243 — only Sir James Anderson is ahead of him with 269.

His place in the side at Chester-le-Street has gone to his leg-spinning protege Rehan Ahmed.
