Tonight will be the latest in a long line of special nights for the country’s all-time top scorer, who is set to win his 125th cap in the Nations League clash against Czechia at Wembley.
Kane will equal Shilton’s long-standing record as the most capped England men’s player and the Bayern Munich sharp-shooter will go on to break it during November’s double-header should he avoid injury.
England boss Tuchel told talkSPORT: “When I was a young boy, I was Peter Shilton in goal. I didn’t even know exactly why I was.
“I had a favour for English goalkeepers. I don’t know why and my friends didn’t really know what I was talking about, so hopefully the next generations all over the world will be Harry Kane in their backyard.
“He’s a role model in the way he behaves, in the way he leads the team and in the way of course he produces outstanding performances, so, yeah, it cannot be a better one to take the record of Peter Shilton.”
Shilton made his final appearance for England at the 1990 World Cup having made his debut 20 years earlier.
Kane’s bow came against Lithuania in March 2015, when he scored the first of what is now an ever-expanding national team record of 89 goals.
“I’m not sure if I have any more words because I feel like he scores all the time and he plays fantastic,” Tuchel said of a striker who has scored four times across this three-game autumn camp.
“He’s in the shortlist for Ballon d’Or, so we spoke so often about him.
“Since he takes this major role for Bayern Munich, he found a new level, and it’s on and off the pitch highest level.”
Meanwhile, Tuchel also discussed Alex Scott’s injury, describing it as a “strange one” and insisted there was “zero risk-taking” by England after the Bournemouth midfielder picked up a thigh issue that could keep him out for two months.
Scott made his debut off the bench in last week’s 2-0 Nations League win in Czechia and sparkled on his first start in Saturday’s 7-0 victory away to Croatia.
Tuchel planned to start the midfielder, only for slight discomfort before the match to turn into a potential two-month lay-off that nobody foresaw.
Ezri Konsa also left camp today after a knock in Croatia compounded discomfort he already felt when he joined the squad, but Tuchel is confident the Arsenal defender has “nothing major.”
Scott is a different matter and will miss a number of key matches as Bournemouth battle on domestic and European fronts, as well as November’s England camp.
“I can 100 per cent understand that Bournemouth is not happy and sad because they lose a key player,” Tuchel said.
“But I can just say from the moment we took the decision to let him play, there was absolutely no risk whatsoever apparent to me or our physical staff that we have a risk of an injury.”
Tuchel says the England and Bournemouth medical departments have been involved in a “totally open process” over Scott’s fitness and says club have to trust the national team.
