The call, which mirrors similar demands in Wales, comes after the BBC confirmed its plan last week to axe the BBC Scotland channel with the loss of more journalism jobs.
SNP MSP David Linden said: “Westminster is happy to preside over the managed decline of Scotland’s broadcasting industry — we cannot let that happen.
“The BBC has decided that Scotland is where its axe will fall by axing its only channel dedicated to Scotland, while Westminster was all too happy to green light STV’s destruction of its historic north of Scotland coverage.”
The planned cuts at the BBC follow on from Ofcom rubber-stamping STV to shut down news operation in the north of Scotland, despite widespread concern across society strongly opposing the move.
The National Union of Journalists has warned that these reductions cannot continue and will lead the BBC towards a “doom spiral” of cuts and diminishing services.
