Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service urged people to avoid the area after a fire broke out at a building on Market Street late on Monday night.

Roads are closed on Upper Parliament Street, Lower Parliament Street, Market Street, King Street and Queen Street, while the Nottingham Tram has been stopped in both directions between Theatre Royal and Market Square.

Residents were advised to keep windows and doors closed.

A fire service update in the morning said that a reduced presence remained at the scene, with trams halted in both directions between Theatre Royal and Market Square.

“Roads in the area have been opened to one lane only, and we expect heavy traffic disruption this morning; please use alternative routes where possible,” the statement said.

“There have been no reports of any injuries at this stage, and a fire investigation is scheduled to take place later today.”
