Christians pray for government to reject Rosebank drilling outside Labour conference

Christians from various denominations and people of other faith and secular backgrounds took part in the action organised by Christian Climate Action on Monday night.

A campaign group spokesman Mark Francis said that the vigil was to “pray for the government to live up to its responsibilities and to protect lives; and to pray for all those across the world that the Rosebank decision will affect.

“Governments should govern wisely and act to protect our common home.”

The government is expected to announce its decision on whether or not to give Adura and Ithaca permission to drill Britain’s largest undeveloped oil field within weeks.

The former is a joint venture between Norwegian company Equinor and Shell and Ithaca is majority owned by Israeli fuel conglomerate, Delek Group.
