US drafted a memo condemning UK, France and Canada over settlement sanctions: Report
US officials in early September drafted a statement attributed to Secretary of State Marco Rubio condemning plans by the UK, France and Canada to block imports from Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, according to Reuters.
The document, dated 8 September and drafted by American officials in Israel and the US, proposed that Rubio describe the countries' actions as a series of hostile measures against Tel Aviv that contribute to antisemitism.
"These tactics unacceptably draw from the playbook of the antisemitic boycotts, divestments and sanctions movement," the draft document, reviewed by Reuters, said. According to the agency, it was never released.
