US Centcom rejects IRGC claim of ‘complete control’ over Hormuz

Iran does not fully control the Strait of Hormuz, US Central Command said, hitting back against claims from a senior Iranian military commander that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps “completely controls” the strategic waterway

In a post on X, Centcom said claims that “Iran has full control over the Strait of Hormuz … are false”. It added: “Iran has no navy because American forces sank it.”

According to Centcom, more than 1 billion barrels of oil have recently passed through the strait, demonstrating that Iran does not control the waterway.

American forces have been helping to keep commercial traffic flowing through the strait while enforcing a blockade on Iranian maritime trade, US officials have said previously.
