Saudi Arabia has right to defend itself from Houthi attacks, says Rubio
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said that Saudi Arabia has the "right to defend" itself from Houthi attacks.
Speaking to reporters in Maryland on Monday, Rubio said: “Obviously the Saudis have come under Houthi attack … and they have a right to defend themselves.”
The Republican senator said neither Saudi Arabia or Yemen's internationally recognised government were “in favour of [Houthi] control in that territory”.
Rubio also stressed that the US has a binding security agreement with Saudi Arabia and intends to honour it.
