Report: Netanyahu manipulated account of warnings before Hamas-led 7 October attack

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu manipulated his account of warnings he received before the 7 October 2023 Hamas-led attack, Yedioth Ahronoth reported. 

The investigation compared a 55-page document released by Netanyahu in February with original records, meeting summaries and testimonies, finding omissions and changes in wording and context. 

Amongst such changes include warnings issued in the months before the attack and proposals for military action against the Palestinian movement.

According to the report, the prime minister's document portrayed him as stressing on the assassination of Hamas leaders amid resistance from senior security officials who prefered maintaining a calm stance regarding Gaza. 

However, original records indicated that Netanyahu repeatedly sought calm and rejected the approval of attacks despite warnings from security officials.
