Qatar's emir condemns Israeli attacks in Syria, Lebanon and Palestine

Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani delivered remarks at the 81st session of the United National General Assembly in which he condemned Israel's actions in Lebanon, Syria and Palestine, including the genocide in Gaza and "settler terrorism" in the occupied West Bank.

“There can be no talk of a just international order as long as Palestine remains a blind spot within it,” Al Thani said in the UN headquarters in New York on Tuesday, calling "what has transpired in Gaza" a "genocide in every sense of the word, and the stain of shame on the conscience of humanity as a whole.”

“Future generations will be astonished by the enormous gap between the scale of the catastrophe and the level of international response to stop it,” he added, calling on the international community to push Israel to honour its commitments under the Gaza ceasefire deal.

The Emir also condemned “the continued persecution, apartheid, and settler terrorism in the occupied West Bank” and denying the Palestinian people “their inalienable right to establish their independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital” have all contributed to “an open wound”.

He added that Israeli “aggression” has expanded to encompass neighbouring countries, “affecting the security of the region as a whole”.

Al Thani told the UN General Assemby that Israel continues its “blatant attacks” against Syria, and is occupying more of Syrian territories without any attempt at justification.

He also expressed Qatar’s support for Lebanese state institutions and sovereignty “over its entire territory” and condemned Israeli attacks against Lebanon, he said, stressing the need to uphold a ceasefire.
