Knesset member warns Arab town faces threat of expulsion, settler terror

Ofer Cassif, a member of the Knesset, said what he witnessed firsthand in Majd al-Krum, an Arab town in Galilee, amounted to “a copy-paste of the creeping transfer, from the West Bank into the heart of the State of Israel itself”, warning of expulsion and settler terror attacks.

Representing the Democratic Front for Peace and Equality (Hadash) since 2019, Cassif wrote on X: “A gang of zealous minors, led by an adult Kahanist thug, takes over Arab lands under police protection and ostensibly in accordance with the law (apartheid laws, of course).”

He said that “if this bud doesn't get nipped in the immediate”, the next stage will be “terror attacks against the Arab landowners, their expulsion, and the establishment of additional Kahanist terror nests”.

“That's why we came there today, hundreds of Hadash activists and village residents, to say: We won't let you!

“The criminal police indeed prevented most of us from entering the area, but our voice was heard and will continue to be heard without fear.

“No to theft and ethnic cleansing! Yes to equality and distributive justice in lands!” he said.

According to the Times of Israel, settlers from the West Bank have erected an outpost on state land within the jurisdiction of Majd al-Krum, with the local council warning of the “dangerous political context” as the government seeks to boost Jewish presence in the Galilee.

The Jewish National Fund, a Zionist organisation that owns a large share of Israel’s land, confirmed to the Haaretz newspaper that it had leased the field solely for livestock herding, “not for the establishment of a farm to house youths".

But the “zealous minors” Cassif referred to, clad in holiday white for Rosh Hashanah, had pitched tents, brought furniture, and hung up lights.
