Israeli settlers raid West Bank village, Ottoman-era historic site

Israeli settlers have been raiding the village of Awarta, south of Nablus, and the area surrounding al-Uzair shrine for more than 12 hours, Wafa news reported.

Local sources told Wafa that dozens of settlers raided the village in the occupied West Bank under protection from Israeli forces, and performed Jewish rituals at Islamic shrines in the village, attacking Palestinians who attempt to approach the site.

Meanwhile, Wafa also reported that Israeli settlers raided the Ottoman-era tunnel known as “Al-Kharq,” east of Bal'a town, east of Tulkarm, on Wednesday.

According to witnesses, they performed Jewish prayers inside and raised Israeli flags.

The tunnel dates back to the late 19th century and has been included on Palestine’s tourism map as one of the country’s notable archaeological sites in need of attention, rehabilitation, and restoration.
