Forty-one US lawmakers call for release of Palestinian healthworkers

Forty-one US lawmakers have called on Secretary of State Mark Rubio to press Israel for the release of Palestinian healthcare workers. 

“They are arbitrarily being detained without formal charges or due process,” Wisconsin 2nd District Representative Mark Pocan wrote on X.

The letter led by Pocan and Representative Mike Quigley said the detention of Palestinian medical workers does further harm to Gaza’s devastated healthcare and erodes access to care in the occupied West Bank. 

It added that medical professionals are entitled to protection under International Humanitarian Law, and “it is critical that the United States emphasises the importance of protecting medical personnel from arbitrary detention without due process”.
