EU's Costa urges Iran to restore navigation in Hormuz Strait, resume cooperation with IAEA

European Council President Antonio Costa said he had a "frank and substantial discussion" with Iranian president Masoud Pezeshkian.

"I stressed that dialogue is the only way to resolve conflicts and to ensure lasting peace across the region," Costa said in a post on X.

He also called for an end to "Iran’s strikes against its neighbours and the full restoration of freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz", and Pezeshkian to resume its cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency.

"The EU stands ready to support all ongoing diplomatic efforts," he added.
