EU’s Costa calls for dialogue and renewed nuclear cooperation after talks with Iran’s Pezeshkian

European Council President Antonio Costa has urged Iran to restore cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency following talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian at the UN General Assembly.

Writing on X, Costa described their meeting on the assembly’s sidelines as a “frank and substantial discussion”.

He called for “an end to Iran’s strikes against its neighbours and the full restoration of freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz”.

Costa said he emphasised that “dialogue is the only way to resolve conflicts and to ensure lasting peace across the region”.
