EU top diplomat meets Iran’s Araghchi to discuss Strait of Hormuz

The EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs Kaja Kallas met Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to discuss free maritime passage in the Strait of Hormuz.

“There were no tolls or fees for passage before the war, and there should be none after the war,” Kallas said on X, describing their discussions held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York on Tuesday.

“Navigation must be free and unimpeded, both in the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab al-Mandab Strait.”

The EU foreign policy chief also said she raised the issue of “domestic repression inside Iran, including the sharp rise in executions and death sentences”.

I met with Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
