Eight sailors assigned to US carrier strike group attempted suicide during deployment against Iran: Report

Eight US Navy personnel assigned to the USS Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group attempted suicide during the vessels' deployment against Iran, CNN reported based on a letter from the service’s acting secretary.

"Since the beginning of Lincoln’s deployment, there have been a total of eight suicide attempts across the strike group," Acting Navy Secretary Hung Cao wrote to democrat senator Kirsten Gillibrand.

"This number includes the Lincoln crew and sailors from the carrier airwing, strike group and destroyer squadron staff, escorting destroyers and all embarked aviation squadrons."

One US military official told CNN that eight attempted suicides is "incredibly high".
