Egypt condemns Israeli raid at al-Aqsa
Egypt has condemned raids by Israelis at al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem earlier on Thursday, when hundreds of Israelis stormed the holy site to mark the sixth day of Sukkot, the Jewish holiday.
Historic Status Quo agreements governing the shared use of holy sites in Jerusalem and the occupied Palestinian territories reserve al-Aqsa for Muslim worship, with nearby areas including the Western Wall allocated for Jewish worship.
Members of the Israeli government, including the far-right national security minister Itamar Ben Gvir, have on multiple occasions stormed the site, which has long been a flashpoint of tensions between Israelis and Palestinians.
A statement posted by Egypt's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the raids "exacerbate tensions and threaten the security and stability of the occupied Palestinian territories and the entire region."
