Statement: Trump out of Brazil and Latin America! Fight Yankee Intervention in the Elections and All Imperialist Interference!

On Friday October 2, just two days before Brazil’s general election, the Trump administration suspended the services of the United States Embassy in the capital, Brasília, and all consulates in Brazil. Trump justified the move with a ridiculous claim of “security concerns” in the face of an alleged threat disseminated on social media. So far the searches carried out by Brazil’s Federal Police have not found any concrete evidence to confirm such “danger,” as expected.

The justification is pathetic. A threat of this kind on social media does not explain a diplomatic measure of this magnitude. This move is a clear sign of increased imperialist interference in the elections and in our country. Diana Assunção, national leader of the MRT, stated on social media:

The suspension of services at the U.S. embassy and consulates in Brazil is a clear sign of the increased imperialist interference in the elections and in our country. Organize the fight to KICK TRUMP OUT OF BRAZIL AND LATIN AMERICA!

In recent months, Trump has escalated his pressure on Brazil, intervening in various ways in the national political scene. These have included tariffs and trade blackmail; threats surrounding the PIX (Brazil’s instant payment system); pressure on rare earths, critical minerals, oil, and strategic sectors of the Brazilian economy; as well as direct political intervention by the U.S. government in defense of its Bolsonarist allies in the country. In an Instagram video detailing these attacks, Bruno Gilga — MRT leader and activist with SINTUSP (Union of Workers in the University of São Paulo) and the Global Sumud Flotilla — emphasized the crucial need for the working class and youth to closely monitor every move by Trump and imperialism.

Now, on the eve of the elections, this offensive is taking on new and serious proportions. At the same time that the Americans are closing their diplomatic missions in Brazil, details have come to light of connections between Flávio Bolsonaro’s campaign and multimillionaire businessmen linked to the Rockbridge Network, an organization founded by JD Vance.

Trump’s vice president is deploying his political network in Brazil, while businesspeople connected to it provide consulting services, produce reports, and maintain communication with Flávio Bolsonaro’s campaign. These are the latest expressions of the Far Right’s international maneuvering, which seeks to expand its business interests, political influence, and control over strategic resources in the country.

The Trump administration hopes to further subordinate Brazil to the United States in order to guarantee better conditions for large American monopolies and appropriate Brazil’s wealth and strategic sectors.

They want to plunder all our resources and are working to strengthen the political forces in Brazil willing to guarantee this handover. Flávio Bolsonaro and Bolsonarism are their most immediate lackeys. They are willing to deepen the country’s subjugation by handing over every last drop of oil and rare earth minerals. It is this sell-out Far Right that is also working to maintain the six-day work week to guarantee more exploitation and profit for the capitalists.

Luno — a student at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul and a Marxist and anti-racist activist with Faísca Revolucionária and Esquerda Diário — highlighted in a video how the fight against imperialist interference is inseparable from the struggle against racism and the Far Right.

To confront every instance of imperialist interference in these elections and in all national politics, the only path forward is the mobilization of our class, the youth, and all oppressed sectors. It is urgent that the labor unions, the UNE (National Union of Students), social movements, and the entire Left organize workers and students to fight every maneuver by the Trump administration. We must be prepared to respond in the streets to any new interventionist measure.

This preparation needs to begin immediately in every workplace and place of study.

As Leandro Lanfredi, Director of the Rio de Janeiro Oil Workers Union, has argued, it is necessary to organize the fight against American interference in every factory, school, university, and workplace. The response to Trump is urgent and cannot be limited by the interests of sectors of the Brazilian bourgeoisie who subordinate themselves to imperialist interests; we need an independent response that imposes the strength and interests of the Brazilian working class and youth. Unlike Lula, who has touted his relationship with the U.S. president, we need to repudiate Trump’s interference and demand his expulsion from Brazil and all of Latin America.

The fight against U.S. interference must also address the control of Brazil’s strategic common natural resources. It’s not enough to say that Trump cannot interfere in elections while simultaneously allowing multinational corporations and large foreign investors to control oil, mining, energy, and strategic sectors of the economy. This is happening now under Lula’s government, which will hold another oil auction on October 7th. It is necessary to fight for the nationalization of all these sectors under workers’ control, in alliance with scientists from public universities.

Rare earth elements, critical minerals, and oil must serve the majority of the population, not competition between billionaires and imperialist powers.

Therefore, in the face of this new escalation, our response needs to be clear:

No imperialist interference in Brazilian elections!

Trade unions, the National Union of Students (UNE), and social movements: it is urgent to prepare for street mobilizations against any imperialist intervention!

Rare earth elements, critical minerals, and oil must be ours!

For a Petrobras that is 100 percent state-owned and managed under the democratic control of the workers themselves. We must put all energy and mineral resources at the service of the social needs of the exploited and oppressed majority, not the profits of foreign monopolies!
